The main objective of this programme is to develop departmental supporting information management and Information Technology as per the DPSA and GITO council requirements (Master Plan). The unit also upgrades internal network infrastructure to accommodate future internal and external expansion

Align the Department’s Information Management and Technology strategy with its strategic direction, management plans and business processes of the Department

Develop departmental supporting information management and Information Technology policies and strategies, regulations, standards, norms, guidelines, best practice and procedures.

Represent the DHET at the GITO Council.

Promote effective management of information and Information Technology as enabler and a strategic resource.

Create an enabling environment for other managers to perform their functions more effectively and efficiently.

Manage the SITA relationship, which entails control of the Business Agreements and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with SITA and/or other suppliers of Information Technology goods and services.

Utilisation of information security mechanisms and ensure compliance to the relevant regulatory frameworks.
