19 february 2017 - Deputy Minister MANANA TO LAUNCH HIS EDUCATION SUNDAY CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAMME AT OASIS CHURCH IN UMLAZI TOWNSHIP, kwazulu-natal


The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Mduduzi Manana, MP, will be visiting the Oasis Church in Umlazi Township, KwaZulu-Natal Province on Sunday, 19 February 2017 to launch the Education Sunday Career Guidance Programme that will be rolled out throughout the year. 

The purpose of this programme is to create awareness, inform and educate the church community targeting youth, parents and guardians in organized formations such as churches about opportunities within the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) sector.

The PSET institutions such as Universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges, Sector Education and Training Authority's (SETAs), National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and the department's Khetha Career Development Services will be on sight to exhibit.

13-14 FEBRUARY 2017 - DHET HOSTS THE SECOND WORLD SKILLS SOUTH AFRICA COMPETITION IN KWAZULU-NATAL


The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) will host the second World Skills South
Africa (WSSA) Competitions at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban, from 13 –17 February 2017.

The WSSA Competition is about celebrating the talent of young artisans and technicians in the country; and also serves as an advocacy programme to highlight the importance of the artisanal sector in the country's economy. Approximately 120 participants from public TVET Colleges, Private Colleges, Universities of Technology and industry will compete in 22 skill areas. In addition; the competition will attract over 3 000 high school learners from across the country.

Winners from the national competition will receive further preparatory training. They will then go on to represent South Africa at the World Skills International Competition in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates in October 2017.

13 FEBRUARY 2017 -  MINISTER NZIMANDE TO VISIT UMGUNGUNDLOVU TVET COLLEGE


The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Blade Nzimande will visit Umgungundlovu TVET College - Midlands Campus, on Monday, 13 February 2017, as part of his oversight mandate on higher education institutions.

The Minister will meet with the college management and student leadership. The visit forms part of an ongoing monitoring exercise by the Ministry to ensure a seamless start of each academic year.

2 FEBRUARY 2017, MINISTER NZIMANDE TO LAUNCH A PILOT FOR FUNDING OF MISSING MIDDLE STUDENTS. Further Details.

The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr. Blade Nzimande will this Thursday launch - Ikusasa Student Financial Aid Project (ISFAP) - a pilot programme aimed at addressing the funding challenge for missing middle students.

In 2016, the Minister appointed Mr Sizwe Nxasana to lead a Ministerial Task Team to explore various options for funding the broad range of students who require financial assistance in university and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college programmes. The task team has proposed a model that brings together government and the private sector to work together towards this objective.

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Mduduzi Manana will visit the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) Head Offices in Cape Town on Thursday, 10 November 2016, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the institution.
